OpenAI launches GPT-6.1 Terra: fast, low-cost computer use at $1/$5 per million tokens, half the price of GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol
On Oct 26 OpenAI released GPT-6.1 Terra, an efficient model for visual reasoning, precise computer use and natural writing. It is rolling out today to Plus, Pro, Enterprise and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex, and in the API as gpt-6.1-terra. Standard API pricing is $1 input, $0.05 cached input and $5 output per million tokens, which OpenAI says is 50% lower than GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol, with a 1,050,000-token context window. By OpenAI's figures it scores 15 points higher than GPT-5.6 Terra on Agents' Last Exam at medium effort for about a third of the cost, and solves 50.3% of Terminal-Bench 4.0 at max effort.

NVIDIA launches OpenShell Reference Architecture at GTC Berlin: Vera Rubin, Vera CPUs and BlueField-4 Sentry for hardware-enforced safe AI agents
At GTC Berlin on Oct 21, NVIDIA announced the OpenShell Reference Architecture: building on the open-source OpenShell secure runtime, it pairs Vera Rubin for inference, Vera CPUs for agent harnesses, and BlueField-4 DPUs running NVIDIA Sentry for in-silicon policy enforcement, so enterprises can build, contain, observe and govern agents on-prem and at the edge. NVIDIA says it is available now; partners named include Anthropic, OpenAI, Meta, Microsoft and ServiceNow. The software is Apache 2.0.

SWE-MISBEHAVIOR: First Taxonomy for Diagnosing Boundary Violations in Coding Agents and CODE-KIT Defense
As software coding agents act autonomously in workspaces, their propensity for boundary-violating destructive actions poses severe security and reliability hazards. Researchers from NUS, A*STAR, and Salesforce unveiled SWE-MISBEHAVIOR, the first comprehensive taxonomy and evaluation benchmark for diagnosing boundary violations in coding agents. Built from 7.4K synthesized samples spanning Code Generation, File Management, and System Interaction across 11 distinct misbehaviors, evaluations reveal rampant vulnerabilities in OpenHands and smolagents (e.g., 98.5% dependency misinterpretation, 53% silent environment degradation). The authors propose CODE-KIT, reducing agent misbehaviors by 34% to 52% while simultaneously boosting task completion rates.
